What Does Holistic Health Really Mean?

I really hadn’t heard of holistic health until I was in my early teens. I had been struggling with the symptoms of a bone disorder which meant that I broke easily. This was interfering with my athletic lifestyle and the physicians in my life were less than impressive. A friend of mine said her mother used holistic medicine and that I should check it out.

The first impression that I had was that holistic health was comparable to magic.

Learning the Proper Yoga Breathing Styles

I really wasn’t too sure what to think when I found out that I had to learn the proper Yoga breathing styles in my early Yoga classes. I have been an athlete for most of my life and while there were times a coach might ask me to breathe a little bit, I had never experienced the idea of a “proper” breathing style. Shrugging my doubts away, I was there to learn Yoga in its fullest and I sat down on my little purple mat all ready to go.

Tai Chi – The Peace Loving Martial Art

Hard to believe that those slow motion, graceful and balletic movements that one sees every day in parks around the world, as Tai Chi devotees prepare themselves for the day, when sped up, are one of the most effective self defense disciplines the world has ever seen.

With its distinctive grace and flowing movements, Tai Chi Chuan is a popular form of anger management and relaxation as it provides an effective antidote to the stresses of a competitive society.

Popular Yoga Poses

The most popular Yoga poses are the basic heart and soul of Yoga practice. Yoga poses are also called asanas, and are not initially difficult to learn. Some of the poses are as simple as standing while others require you to develop some good balance and lifting skills. When you lift your own body, you can hold your balance for much longer periods of time.

Pilates – The Core (and core values)

The Pilates exercise regime is based on what is called ‘core’ strength. This relates to the main muscles that sit within the abdominal wall and support and surround our backbone/spine.

By strengthening these pivotal muscle groups we stabilize our whole body, specifically when it comes to posture.

Find Yoga Classes In Your Area

Most of you can find Yoga classes in your area. Of course, you might not be able to find the Yoga style that you want to learn, but you can almost always get into a traditional Yoga class.

While I used to believe that meditation was the key to getting myself centered when I was off course, I have discovered that Yoga gives me a much more powerful centering as well as a better body shape than traditional meditation.

What are Yoga Retreats?

What are Yoga Retreats?

Yoga retreats are cropping up everywhere. So what the heck are they exactly? Good question! I had always pictured them as mysterious and exotic locations filled with disciples of Yoga Masters following their ‘gurus’ through beautiful gardens and scenic spots soaking up Yoga exercises all day.

Granted, my view was a tad slanted and even a little bit Hollywood affected. Sometimes you develop a silly image of something and so need a little education to replace it with a more appropriate and realistic image.

Even if you take it down to the basics of showing respect for the planet you live on and the environment of which provides you with air to breathe and food to eat.

Is Yoga For Children Too?

I know plenty of Yoga enthusiasts who live Yoga as a lifestyle and not just an exercise. This means that many of them practice Yoga with their children, which makes me wonder. Is Yoga for children too? Do they get anything out of it? Or does it just appease a parent to involve their children in Yoga?

8 Minute Meditation: Quiet Your Mind. Change Your Life.

One of the most horrible things in the world is a panic attack. Anxiety is something that almost everyone has to experience sometime in their lives, but people who have constant and horrible panic attacks have to worry about the effects that it has on their lifestyle and the lives of people around them. Panic attacks are not easy to control, but they’re also not completely unavoidable. There are many ways that you can help cure your own anxiety. Although there are not any scientific ways to completely get rid of your anxiety, there actually are plenty of semi-scientific ways.

One of the best of these things is meditation. People who begin meditating generally learn how to avoid having the same type of panic attacks that they were having before, as they now have a more passive and calm approach towards things. Meditation is something that has existed for thousands of years, and has proven to be a cure for numerous types of psychological problems. There is no reason why you shouldn’t start getting into meditation to help with your panic attacks or any other physical or psychological problem. As something that has constantly worked for millions of people, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t start.

Try sitting down somewhere, free of any distractions, and closing your eyes. It would be best to sit somewhere not too comfortable, so try to avoid the couch. As you sit with your eyes closed, concentrate on nothing but your own breath. Consciously follow it as you breath in and out. If your minds starts to drift off and think about your daily problems, catch yourself and bring your full concentration back to your breath. Sit like this each day for about 8 minutes. Pick a time that is more comfortable for you, but early morning is best.

As you follow this simple technique and dedicate only 8 minutes a day to it, you with gradually start to notice the improvements. Your concentration will be better and you will overall feel like you are living your life more consciously.

Holistic Medicine

Holistic medicine is one of the most interesting fields of medicine in the world, but few people really understand what it is. There are many people out there who say negative things about holistic medicine and try to suggest that it doesn’t work. That is a pretty silly suggestion; if holistic medicine didn’t work, how come millions of people across the world practice it? One thing that most people don’t understand is the difference between not having a scientific background behind the medicine and not having a proven case background behind the medicine. Holistic medicine works and there are millions of people across the planet who are willing to testify to its power. Modern science has not caught up with holistic medicine and because of that it is hard for science to prove or disprove various elements of holistic medicine. But that doesn’t mean that it’s not scientific or it’s beyond science, even, it just means that holistic medicine is in another category of science. Regardless of that, holistic medicine has one of the best track records in the world when it comes to healing people. If you have a serious problem and the doctors haven’t been helping you, maybe you should consider holistic medicine.

Move towards holistic health

What exactly does the phrase holistic health mean? Holistic health is harmonizing and balancing our body, mind, spirit as well as our emotions. Every one of us has come into this world with a rare kind of equilibrium that comprises us and decides our plus points and negative points. A holistic approach succeeds in creating realization about self and respect for the impact that an individual’s life creates on everything else.

In a holistic health approach, the entire life style of an individual is taken into view that his food habits, workout style, mind and body coordination, emotions his views on spirituality and his social behavior in general.

For a number of present day health complications, owing to our life style, tension and attitude disorders, an innate holistic self-help procedure are a workable alternative to drug addiction, various side effects and costly treatments, through simple and spiritual living pattern along with yoga and meditation. The maxim followed here that your own body knows fully well as to how to be fit but it needs adequate support from you.

Hence, health education is a step towards understanding holistic health rules and implementing them in your daily life. You may begin with very simple tasks and targets that can be easily slid into your daily life and rejoice in the benefits of good health, joy and vigor.

Holistic immune boosters for fall and winter

As fall approaches, it’s important that we start getting ready to defend our bodies from the crazy onslaught of sicknesses that tend to occur during the fall and winter. Flu vaccines are being prepared every day, but there are other ways that you can get ready for the onslaught using very natural things. Yoga/T’ai-Chi/Qi-gong are ancient types of exercises that have actually been scientifically proven to make your blood pressure and cholesterol go down. Not only that, but they can also make you have better joint and respiratory health. It’s not as difficult to start as you might think, you can just buy an instructional DVD. There are also classes that can be taken everywhere.

Another good way to get a better immune system naturally is by changing what you eat. If you start eating healthier foods, you’ll be able to have a better immune system without taking any medicine. But if you do take medicine, you should consider herbal medicine, which is not likely to have the same side effects ans problems that come with regular medicine. Your holistic health is in your own hands.
