Find Yoga Classes In Your Area

May 20, 2009 | Greg | Comments 0

Most of you can find Yoga classes in your area. Of course, you might not be able to find the Yoga style that you want to learn, but you can almost always get into a traditional Yoga class.

While I used to believe that meditation was the key to getting myself centered when I was off course, I have discovered that Yoga gives me a much more powerful centering as well as a better body shape than traditional meditation.

For centering purposes I like to start my day with Integral Yoga, which is a style that blends the traditional Yoga poses with exercises in breathing, integrated kriyas, chanting, and meditation. This style helps me focus throughout the day and keeps me well centered and self aware enough to help me keep my tight emotions under control. While you might be able to easily find Yoga classes in your area, not all regions offer easy access to Integral Yoga styles.

For late day stress relief I like to pick up the pace a little bit and engage in the more physically demanding, spiritually enlightening style of Jivamukti. The combination of the spiritual journey, the physical exertion, and the cadence of the chanting helps me clear my body of intense stress. Of course, once again you might find plenty of Yoga classes in your area without ever finding one that teaches Jivamukti.

Most people simply decide that whatever types of Yoga classes in your area are available are just going to have to be good enough. With so many different styles and teaching methods you aren’t likely to find a selection of all of them unless you live in a major metropolitan area like New York City or Houston. Even then you might only find the newest and most interesting Yoga techniques. These might work for you or they might not. It’s all a matter of personal preference and what you want o get out of doing Yoga.

I ran into some interesting statistics. Of course, the numbers aren’t entirely picture perfect accurate because they didn’t come from multiple workout center chains. But one national workout center reported that the Yoga classes are almost always filled to capacity in the beginning of a session and have dwindled down to half the attendance by the middle of the session. Their sessions run for six to eight weeks which means that half of their class drops out by week three. Why are these statistics interesting?

Because I believe that people sign up for Yoga classes with the best of intentions only to realize that their life is just too busy to keep up the commitment. These numbers make for excellent evidence for why time is better spent looking for a down-loadable Yoga class versus looking for Yoga classes in your area.

Life might be too busy to keep a commitment that is bound to time restricted exercise. It is not too difficult to get in a daily Yoga class online when you’re getting it done around the house. Taking care of yourself is much easier when you do not feel you are sacrificing anyone else’s needs.

Sometimes you need the motivation of a local yoga class. Type your town, city or area in the search box below and look for the ‘Local Search’ results:
