The most popular Yoga poses are the basic heart and soul of Yoga practice. Yoga poses are also called asanas, and are not initially difficult to learn. Some of the poses are as simple as standing while others require you to develop some good balance and lifting skills. When you lift your own body, you can hold your balance for much longer periods of time.
No matter which style of Yoga you prefer, the basic popular Yoga poses stay pretty much the same throughout the various systems. Moreover the poses are specific to allow for physical, emotional, or mental benefits. Usually, the poses are designed in part to encourage the body to release stress, tension, and pain. Since each pose is aimed at specific areas of the body, and the more difficult poses are built on top of the beginning poses, it is best to take your time when learning the vast amount of poses that you will encounter. The most popular Yoga pose, the Downward Facing Dog, is a very common element in Yoga. As a single exercise it is very effective at developing strength and muscle tone. Used as a transitional pose, it is also typically associated with the relief of back pain. This popular Yoga pose looks like you are making a triangle with you body and the floor. The arms, head, and torso face down, bend at the highest point (the hips) and angle the legs down directly opposite of the torso.
Another of the most popular Yoga poses is the Garland pose. This particular Yoga position is aimed at helping the hips open up. The Garland pose is a squatting pose that keeps the feet parallel and about shoulder width apart. With focal hands clasped together, squat down keeping the feet as parallel as possible. After five breaths you can rise once again and repeat the pose if you’d like.
The Mountain pose is a lot more difficult than it seems. From an outsider’s point of view it looks like standing very still in one place. However, you are aiming to align your entire body with nothing more than your muscles and determination. Standing with your two big toes touching each other you want to lift the feet upward bringing the toes into the air. Let the toes part ways in order to land with your weight evenly balanced on the four main areas of the foot. Use your muscles to create perfect alignment of the body. For a standing exercise this can be one of the most physically taxing beginners Yoga and can help improve general posture while relieving mold back pain.
The Raised Hands pose continues from the Mountain pose and challenges you to bring your arms directly up over your head, fingertips reaching for the sky. This alignment exercise also helps to improve posture and it relieves back pain. The popular Yoga poses are the standard from which all the more difficult poses will be built from, so take care to learn them properly.
